Content may be grouped as a Collection , a course or a module .
Accessing Modules
To access your modules, continue to click + until you see module details.
Click “Begin" or “Resume” to start learning.
If the button says “Sleep Cycle,” you must wait until the appropriate amount of time has passed to continue. For more information, see What is a Sleep Cycle?
You may consume content in a “flashcard” mode if the content was purchased from the Marketplace or you are a subscriber. Click “Flashcard” to access content in this mode.
What is a Sleep Cycle?
Once you have successfully completed the practice activities for a Day of learning, you won’t be able to interact with the content again until a sleep cycle has occurred. This “lock-out” period is designed to prevent cramming. Research shows that cramming is ineffective for retaining knowledge as it does not allow you to rest your brain. While your brain rests, information transfers from short term to long term memory. During the lock-out period, module status will be “Sleep Cycle” and the time remaining until you may “Resume” learning will be displayed. You may engage in a flash card presentation if content was purchased or you are a subscriber.
Wondering what % complete means?
The % complete displayed for each module indicates how close you are to achieving content mastery.
Wondering what the running man image means?
The image of the running man appears when you are taking a module. This is a performance indicator, and lets you know how you are doing. If you see a red dot by the image, you are performing at a high level and are well on your way to mastery. The red dot will appear/disappear after each day of the module based on your performance.
Mastered Learning
What is the Mastered Learning Dashboard?
Click on the Mastered Learning bubble to review all completed modules. The cumulative number of Mastered modules is displayed in the bubble at the top of your Dashboard. Mastered modules are displayed in the order of completion, with the most recently completed at the top. You may locate completed modules by using the Search box or by scrolling or paging through the list of Mastered Courses.
What do Brush Up and Flashcards do?
Brush-Up is a one-day review of the module. In this option, you are presented with an Introduction and Retention (or practice) round as if you are taking Day 1 of a module. If you want to skip points, just press the Continue button to advance. The HINT button is available.
Flashcards are a way to quickly review material by viewing the Question and typing in the missing words (without the assistance of the HINT button). Use the Flip button to turn the card and view the Answer. Use the Continue button to advance to the next Note.
Neuro Coins
What are Neuro Coins?
Neuro Coins are a way to keep track of how well you are performing. You will be awarded Neuro Coins for each day of learning based on completion and accuracy. Your cumulative coin count will display in the Neuro Coins bubble on your Dashboard. Click on the bubble to see a list of Neuro Coins awarded for each completed module. More to come, so stay tuned!

How can I tell where I am in the module?
There are three statuses located directly above the Neuro Note to show you where you are in the Module.
Module status appears on the top, directly below the Navigation pane. Your current Day of learning will be circled and the current round (Introduction or Retention) will be appear in white font.
Directly underneath Status is a progress bar that will update as each Neuro Note activity is completed. This bar helps track your progress toward mastery.
Underneath the progress bar is a listing of Neuro Notes that must be completed. The Neuro Note currently in progress on will have a circle around it and remaining Neuro Notes will be listed in white. Completed Neuro Notes will turn to black on the status bar.
In the example below, the learner is on Day 2, in the Retention round, on Neuro Note 1of 4. The learner is 43% complete with the module.
Wondering what Day means?
One of the important neuroscience techniques in our learning methodology is learning information through accurate repetition spaced over a multiple days. With Memory Science, the most effective and efficient way to ensure mastery of the content is to repeat the same learning over three separate days. When you take a module each day, you will notice the information is more easily recalled with a higher degree of accuracy.
What is an Introduction round?
The first Day of learning begins with an Introduction round where you will see the Question and the Answer, type in the keywords with the answer present, and then type the keywords again using only your memory. The Introduction round gives you a chance to learn and become familiar with the content before you move into activities that are based solely on retrieval of information from memory.
During the Introduction round, why is the Continue button greyed out?
In order for you to remember the information, you must first familiarize yourself with the content by reading both the question and answer. During the Introduction Round, the Continue button is greyed out so to ensure you have had enough time to read all of the content presented.
What is a Retention round?
In the Retention rounds, you will practice retrieving the keywords from memory for each of the Neuro Notes in order until you have completed each Note twice without using any hints. Research has shown that practice the retrieval of information multiple times over multiple days increases your ability to recall the information with ease.
What happens when I use the Hint button?
The Hint button is there to help jog your memory when you can’t remember a keyword. You can use the Hint button up to three times:
Hint #1 reveals the first letter of each missing keyword
Hint #2 reveals all remaining consonants
Hint #3 reveals all remaining letters
It is important to remember that when you use the Hint button, you will need to complete the Neuro Note again until you can enter in all of the keywords without using a Hint. Additionally, during Retention Rounds, you will not receive credit for completion when a Hint is used. In the status bar, the Neuro Note stays white instead of turning black (like it does when you successfully complete it on the first attempt). You will return to this Neuro Note at the end of the Day’s practice activity for completion. The additional repetitions are to ensure that you can retrieve the information from memory without assistance.
I didn’t press the Hint button! Why was it automatically used?
If you enter 10 or more consecutive incorrect keystrokes, the Hint button will automatically be used. Guessing does little to help you retain the information. Since the Hint button serves to jog your memory, it is a much more efficient and faster way to achieve mastery.
What if I don’t have time to complete the Day I’m working on? Will my progress be saved?
If you need to exit before you are able to complete the Day’s activities, no problem! Simply click “Pause & Resume Later” to return to the Dashboard and save your progress. Please note that during the Introduction round, progress is saved after you have complete all three phases

Guidelines for Creating Neuro Notes and Modules
Although creating Neuro Notes and Modules is fast and easy, we have some basic principles that will help you make the learning experience more effective:
Express a Single Idea: Each Neuro Note should be concise and only express a single idea. Typically, a single sentence is sufficient. If more is required, consider creating multiple Neuro Notes.
Question & Answer Pairs: A Neuro Note is most often expressed as a question and answer pair. Begin by writing the answer first so you can focus on the knowledge you want to remember. From there, you can create a question for your answer. The question should be parallel to the answer, which means that part of the answer is included in the question (for example: What is my name? My name is John Smith). This will help prompt your recall of the question when you are taking your module.
Keep it Simple and Short: Neuro Notes should be short (typically 1 sentence), and the optimal number of Neuro Notes in a module is 5-7. Use simple language, write in active voice instead of passive and write numbers in their numerical format and not as words.
Guidelines for Keywording
After you have written a Neuro Note, the next step is to select the keywords (in the answer only). Keywords are the words that disappear when you are taking the module. While there are no exact rules, experience and practice while using these principles will help you be the most effective with your learning.
Say it Out Loud: Once you have selected your keywords, a good rule of thumb is to read only the keyword aloud. When doing so, ask yourself if this represents the essence of what should be remembered. Usually, it will be clear if you need to add or remove keywords when following this method.
Eight is Enough: As a general practice, try to keep the number of keywords to 8 or fewer. For counting purposes, if the keyword appears in the questions, count it as half of a word. If you have fewer than 8, it is okay. If you have more than 8, be sure to ask yourself if you could have fewer words, or if the Note should be split into two.
Prompts Help: Keyword at least one word included in the question. This will help prompt the correct response and make learning easier.
Keyword Strings: Try to avoid keywording 3 or more words in a row. Having too few bridge words (non-keywords) will make the learning more difficult. There may be exceptions, but always check to see if you can simplify.
Don’t forget the Negatives: Always remember to keywords negative words (e.g. never, don’t, not etc.) since not doing so may cause you to learn the exact opposite of what is intended.
Important Words and Units: Any word that expresses a condition (e.g, if, after, etc) a standard (e.g. always, at least, maximum, etc) or key knowledge should be keyworded. If different units of measure are included (e.g. inches, feet, pounds, gallons, etc) keyword both the numerical amount and the unit of measure.
